I recently acquired some floorboards from an old barn in Georgia. When resurfaced on one side the boards are about 5/8" thick.
I had to do a fair amount of buildup as many of most of the boards have cracks. The top shown is 21" by 15" and is made from 6 strips.
Based on the rescued wood available, this is a reasonable sized top to build from this rescued wood.
The heart pine top is protected with four coats of MinWax satin sheen polyurethane. It is then give a final polish with rottenstone to increase the sheen.
The base of this table is American Walnut with three coats of MinWax satin sheen polyurethane for protection.
Other wood species are available for the table frame. The legs are simple Hepplewhite tapered legs.
The four apron pieces have a French bead detail on the bottom edge. The legs and aprons pieces attached with dowels.
The top is attached to the apron with table top fasteners.
The image below shows a small section of the top. In this area the growth rings are about 18 to 20 per inch.
